Lance joined Crewcut Wanganui last year and started serving customers in areas like Rangitikei, Marton, and Bulls. He offers lawn mowing, weed spraying, tree pruning, hedge trimming, and gardening services using his preferred brands Husqvarna and Walker, saying he likes Husqvarna because the tools are offered at a discount for Crewcut franchises. Moreover, he swears by his Walker ride-on due to its general reliability and performance.

Prior to Crewcut, Lance had a job as a furniture mover. He jumped over to lawn mowing because he wanted to become self-employed. He used to do subcontracting and adored the idea of running a business on his own so he did his homework and studied his options. The opportunity came along with Crewcut and he decided to grab it. Looking for a company to join wasn’t a hard choice according to him because Crewcut had the best brand name. “Nice and wide,” he says, “With quite a really good brand name with a good reputation.”

Lance says he has no lofty business goals, but he is grateful for the flexibility and the ability to work for himself rather than working for a company. He says he enjoys working by himself and getting into the groove of the jobs that come his way. He says he’s self-motivated, good at customer liaison, and puts emphasis on quality work.

“I try to always finish the job at a high standard and I get a lot of pride in what I do. Part of my work is checking that the job I’ve done is top quality. I want to leave a site as beautiful and as tidy as possible,” Lance says.

Lance says newcomers like him need to understand the seasons involved with the job. He says operators would face different challenges for every season. When he’s not mowing lawns in his service areas, you can find him relaxing at home either tinkering with electric bicycles or doing home renovations.
